Which syllabus does Edulom actually teach?

Whichever one the student is examined on. For international schools in Bangkok that means IB across PYP, MYP and DP, Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge A-Level and AP. For Thai schools it means the national core curriculum from Prathom 1 to Mathayom 6, O-NET at ป.6, ม.3 and ม.6, and the TCAS route with TGAT, TPAT and A-Level. We always name which A-Level we mean: Cambridge A-Level and A-Level TCAS, the Applied Knowledge Level papers numbered 61 to 89, are two different examinations, and a tutor prepared for one is not prepared for the other.

How much does a lesson cost?

The rate depends on the subject and the year level, and it is quoted in baht, in writing, before the first lesson is booked. Lessons are sold as sessions rather than as hours. A tutor crossing Bangkok in the morning loses the better part of an hour to the traffic, so a session is booked long enough to be worth that journey, and the travelling is our problem rather than a line on your invoice.

Does the tutor come to us, or do we learn online?

In Bangkok the tutor travels to you, starting with the districts where the international schools sit: Watthana around Sukhumvit, Thong Lo and Ekkamai; Sathon and Bang Rak; Bang Kho Laem by the river; Huai Khwang around Rama IX; Bang Na; and Saphan Sung at Krungthep Kreetha. Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani follow. Everywhere else in Thailand learns online with the same tutor each week. Tutors are assigned along a BTS or MRT corridor rather than by distance on a map, because twelve kilometres across Bangkok at eight in the morning is an hour, not twenty minutes.

How is the tutor chosen for my child?

We ask which school, which year level, which syllabus that school follows, and which topics the student is stuck on, before any name is proposed. The first session is a diagnostic, and its notes go to the parents rather than staying with the tutor. If the two of them do not work well together, the tutor is changed and the change is not charged for.

When is the best time to start?

It depends which calendar your school keeps, and Thailand runs two of them. Thai schools open the academic year in mid-May, break in October between the two semesters, and close in March with the long holiday falling in April. International schools in Bangkok open in August instead. Most families start at the beginning of a term, or right after a set of reports has shown where the gaps are, which is also when a tutor can be matched to something specific rather than to a subject in general.

Do you guarantee a grade?

No. Results depend on how consistently the student works, and anyone promising you a number is selling you something they cannot control. What we do fix is the process: a diagnostic in the first session, a written note after every class saying what was covered and what comes next, and a plan tied to the school’s own homework and examination calendar.

What is Edulom?

Edulom is a private tutoring service for families in Thailand. One tutor teaches one student, at your own table in Bangkok or online anywhere in the country, and the lessons follow the syllabus the student is actually examined on: IB across PYP, MYP and DP, IGCSE, Cambridge A-Level and AP for international schools, and the Thai core curriculum from Prathom 1 through Mathayom 6, including O-NET and the TCAS route with TGAT and TPAT. IELTS and SAT preparation sits alongside both. Nothing about the arrangement stays verbal: the syllabus the tutor will follow, the rate, and what happened in each session are all put in writing.

Edulom is new in Thailand, and there are no numbers on this page for you to weigh. What we can put in front of you today is the way every lesson is run, written plainly enough that you can hold us to each line from the first session onwards.

One tutor, one student

The whole session belongs to one student. The tutor works from the book the school issued, the paper that came back marked, and the question that came back wrong last week.

We ask the school before we assign a tutor

We ask which school the student attends, and which programme they sit under, before a tutor is assigned. The lessons then run on that school’s own scheme of work, its set text and its mark scheme, at the pace the class is actually moving. For an adult with no school behind them, the same question becomes which paper is being sat, and on what date.

The first session is a diagnosis

Before any plan is made, the tutor maps what the student can already do, where the gap actually starts, and how they read a question under time. That assessment comes back in writing. Whoever booked the lessons is the one who receives it, and either way it arrives whether or not you carry on.

A written note after every session

What was covered, where it got difficult, what comes next, and what to practise before the tutor returns. You never have to reconstruct the hour second-hand.

The rate is agreed before the first lesson

In baht, per session, for the subject and the level you asked about. It is fixed in writing before anyone knocks on your door, and nothing is added later without your agreement.

Your table in Bangkok, or online anywhere in Thailand

A tutor travels to you in Sukhumvit, Sathorn, Thonglor or Rama 9. If you are in Nonthaburi, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Khon Kaen, Hat Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima or further out, the same lesson runs online at a scheduled time.

How a tutor earns a seat at your table

A tutor is one person, alone in a room with the student: a child at the kitchen table after school, or an adult on a screen after work. The question worth answering is what each of them has to clear before they are allowed to sit there.

There is no gallery of tutor faces on this page yet. Edulom has taught nobody in Thailand so far, and photographs borrowed from elsewhere would be the one thing on this site you could not check.

Cleared before a first lesson

Identity, on paper
Passport or Thai national ID, the degree being claimed, and the transcript sitting behind it. We read the originals, and a name with no documents behind it stops there.
Proof in the subject, at the level
A mathematics graduate teaches mathematics. We ask for the coursework, the thesis or the exam record in that subject, and for the board they have taught it under, because an IB Diploma paper and an IGCSE paper ask different things of the same topic.
A lesson, taught to us first
One full lesson on a topic pulled from a real syllabus, with us sitting in as the student who is not following. Knowing a subject and getting it into somebody else’s head are two separate skills, and the second one is the job.
The language the classroom actually runs in
A student in an IB or IGCSE classroom reasons in English; one heading for O-NET, TGAT or TPAT reasons in Thai; an adult sitting IELTS usually wants the explanation in Thai and the answer in English. We record which language each tutor can carry the subject in, and match that to the room the lesson actually happens in.
You read the profile before the first lesson
The name, the degree, the syllabus they have taught and how they intend to start with whoever they are teaching, sent to you before anything is booked. If it does not sit right, say so and we look for someone else at no charge. That holds at any point in the term.
