GED Tutoring in Thailand

Two school years run side by side in the same city. The Thai national year begins in mid-May and ends in March, its first semester of ปีการศึกษา 2569 running 16 May until 30 September and its second opening on 1 November. Bangkok's international schools begin in August and finish in June. A GED candidate belongs to neither, and that is the practical advantage of the route: the four papers are booked on dates you choose, so preparation can start in the week you decide rather than in the month a school year permits. It is also the hidden difficulty. A student who leaves the national system mid-year gives up the rhythm that used to decide when to study, and nothing replaces it unless someone builds a calendar on purpose.

Papers are booked one at a time, which makes the order a genuine decision rather than an administrative detail. Three considerations usually settle it. The first is the retake rule: the paper you are least confident about should be sat early, while there is still room in the calendar for a second or third attempt and for the sixty-day wait that follows a third. The second is stamina. Reasoning Through Language Arts runs 150 minutes with a ten-minute break, while Social Studies gives 70 minutes and Science 90, neither with any break at all, so a candidate who has never sat a long paper should not meet the longest one first. The third is momentum: passing something early changes how the next three months feel, and that is worth more than it sounds.

The score reports are not the qualification as a Thai university reads it. The certificate is. It is issued through HSCES, the High School Certificate Equivalency System at hsces.atc.chula.ac.th, run by Chulalongkorn University's academic testing centre, and it comes in three forms. The equivalency certificate is for a candidate who has finished all four papers. The provisional version covers a candidate who has passed at least two of the four and has a plan to sit the rest by the stated deadline. The third document is a GPAX equivalence, which converts the results onto the 4.00 scale that Thai admissions reads, and it matters because several TCAS rounds ask for a grade average that a GED candidate has no school transcript to supply. The TCAS help page gives roughly seven working days for the full certificate and three for the provisional one.

The Ministry of Education regulation on equivalency, published in 2563, places the decision about a foreign upper-secondary qualification with each university, and the CUPT announcement that sets the common criteria says plainly in its closing note that the equivalency criteria are a minimum and that a university or a faculty may require more. So a certificate proves you have finished upper secondary. It does not prove you meet any particular programme's entry requirements. International programmes publish their own English thresholds, and some publish a mathematics requirement on top. The honest sequence is therefore to read the target programme's page before the first paper is booked, because that page decides what the score targets should have been.
