Is O-NET ม.6 compulsory?

No. It became voluntary from ปีการศึกษา 2563 under a Ministry of Education announcement dated 25 December 2563. A school may still enrol its ม.6 cohort as a matter of course, so the practical answer usually comes from the school office.

Does the score count for university admission?

It does not. ทปอ. removed O-NET from TCAS selection at TCAS65. University places are decided through TGAT, TPAT, the TCAS A-Level papers, GPAX and the portfolio round, and none of those read an O-NET result.

For ปีการศึกษา 2569 the ม.6 sitting runs 10 to 13 January 2570 (2027), delivered as Digital Testing. Note the shift: earlier cycles put ม.6 in February, so a countdown copied from last year will be three to six weeks wrong.

How does a ม.6 student register?

A school submits its own students during August. A candidate sitting outside a school roll, including homeschool families, registers through the สทศ. site in the first ten days of November. That second window is short and it is the one people miss.

Which subjects are on the ม.6 paper?

Five: Thai, mathematics, science, social studies and English. The ป.6 and ม.3 papers carry four of them, so social studies is the subject a student meets in an O-NET for the first time in ม.6.

Is O-NET being replaced by O-NET Plus?

An optional version called O-NET Plus was announced in February 2024. As of September 2026 no implementation has been announced, and the name สทศ. uses for the current cycle is still O-NET. We will change this page when that changes, and not before.

If the score decides nothing, why prepare?

Because of what surrounds it. The sitting is a full five-subject run under real conditions, seventeen days before TGAT and TPAT, on the digital interface the rest of the year keeps using. Treated as a rehearsal it is worth the January weeks. Treated as an admissions exam it is not, and we will say so.

O-NET Matthayom 6 is the national test สทศ.

sets at the close of Thai upper secondary school, covering five subjects: Thai, mathematics, science, social studies and English. Sitting it is voluntary, and ทปอ. dropped it from TCAS selection at TCAS65, so the score decides nothing about a university place.

O-NET examines five of the eight learning areas in the Basic Education Core Curriculum B.E. 2551. Health and physical education, the arts, and the careers area are not tested, which is worth knowing when a student is weighing where the timetable goes.

We do not publish question counts or paper timings for O-NET that we cannot source. สทศ. issues the detail for each cycle, and that announcement is what we put in front of a family, in place of a number we have rounded off ourselves.

Preparing for O-NET as though it opens a university door

Why it happens

It used to sit inside the admissions picture, and that memory outlives the rule. ทปอ. struck it from the TCAS criteria at TCAS65, and a Ministry of Education announcement dated 25 December 2563 had already made the sitting a choice from ปีการศึกษา 2563 onward.

How we fix it

We say plainly what the score does and does not do, then plan O-NET as a rehearsal for TGAT, TPAT and the TCAS A-Level papers. The months freed by that single correction are the most valuable thing on this page.

Treating Cambridge A-Level and TCAS A-Level as one exam under one name

Why it happens

In Thailand the name covers two unrelated exams. Cambridge A-Level belongs to Year 12 and 13 in an international school. TCAS A-Level is the ทปอ. paper set, coded 61 to 89, and it is the one a ม.6 student in a Thai school will meet. Code 61 คณิตศาสตร์ประยุกต์ 1 gives a candidate 30 questions, 90 minutes, 100 marks.

How we fix it

Every timetable we hand a family names the exam in full, every time. A ม.6 student preparing maths is preparing two separate papers with two separate purposes, and mixing the practice wastes both.

Treating the whole of January as one long exam blackout

Why it happens

The sitting is 10 to 13 January 2570. Registration for the TCAS A-Level papers runs 14 to 20 January 2570, opening the day after O-NET finishes, and TGAT with TPAT2 to TPAT5 follow on 30 January to 1 February. A family that switches everything off for exam week can surface after the registration window has closed.

How we fix it

We put the whole of January on one page in the first session, registration windows included, and we tick the TCAS A-Level registration off in writing during the week it is open.

Meeting social studies in an O-NET for the first time at ม.6

Why it happens

The ป.6 and ม.3 papers test four subjects. The ม.6 paper tests five, and สังคมศึกษา is the addition. Whatever exam rhythm a student built at the earlier rungs, they built it without this subject in the room.

How we fix it

Social studies starts earliest in our plans and gets the widest revision map, because it is the one paper where familiarity cannot be borrowed from a previous sitting.

Why it happens

The ม.6 sitting is delivered as Digital Testing. ป.6 is still pencil and paper. A student who has only ever revised with a pen meets the reading, the scrolling and the flagging for the first time on the morning it counts.

How we fix it

Timed practice moves onto a screen from November, so the interface is boring by January. Handwriting still has its place in working out, and we keep that separate on purpose.
