The School Year, Level by Level
Every level meets something different in the first weeks, from ป.1 up to university. This is a rough map of 2026/2027 on the Thai school calendar, Term 1 from mid-May and Term 2 from the start of November. Adjust it to your child's rhythm, or to your own.
Starting Prathom 1 (ป.1)
Routine first, reading and counting after
Mid-May – July
Let the routine settle
The opening weeks are a question of rhythm; the marks come later. Twenty to thirty minutes of sitting down at home, reading aloud together, and counting turned into a game.
August – September
Reading and number sense
Term 1 closes with assessments at the end of September. Before then, watch for syllables read smoothly, handwriting that stays on the line, and addition done without fingers under the table.
November – March
Doing it alone
Term 2 is where homework is attempted before anyone steps in to help. Look at the results together afterwards, calmly, and read them as information for the term ahead.
A tutor earns their place when reading is still halting after the first term has passed, or when anything involving numbers is met with a flat refusal.
Starting Matthayom 1 (ม.1)
One class teacher becomes a dozen subject teachers
Mid-May – June
Learn the new shape of the week
A single classroom teacher turns into a different teacher every period. What helps most is one weekly timetable at home and a separate notebook system per subject.
July – September
Hold the foundations
ม.1 mathematics and English carry the next three years. Early algebra and basic grammar are worth going back over until they are genuinely solid.
October break – March
Use the break, then Term 2
October is a full month off. Light review across it costs very little and makes Term 2 noticeably less steep, especially in whichever subject wobbled first.
Mathematics and English are where a tutor shows up most clearly in ม.1, because they are the two subjects that slip first when the pace of the week changes.
ม.4 physics and chemistry move considerably faster than ม.3 science did. The Term 1 results at the end of September are the first honest reading of that gap.
November – March
Start the runway
Term 2 is early enough to look at TCAS without hurry: which faculties are in view, what they weigh, and which of TGAT, TPAT or the A-Level papers in TCAS that implies.
Science subjects are worth catching in ม.4, before Term 2 material is stacked on a foundation that has not settled.

The year the decisions land
Mid-May – August
Grades and portfolio
The GPAX that admissions will read is still being written this term. Round 1 of TCAS opens in August, and a portfolio assembled in a hurry looks exactly like one assembled in a hurry.
September – December
Build the exam base
Two or three sittings a week on TGAT reasoning and English communication, on whichever TPAT paper the target faculty asks for, and on the A-Level subjects in TCAS that go with it.
January – March
Sit them
TGAT and TPAT fall in the opening weeks of the calendar year, the A-Level papers in TCAS a few weeks later. Between sittings, reviewing by topic beats working through whole mock papers.

University
Credits, the hard courses, and the thesis
Opening weeks of Term 1
Plan the load
Register with the whole year in view, then split the weight across terms, book a self-study slot per course while the timetable is still empty, and work out what each lecturer actually marks on before the first midterm.
Midterms to finals
Big work before deadlines
A large assignment started weeks early costs a fraction of the same assignment started three days out. Keep notes in a state you could revise from tomorrow, then read the term GPA as feedback on method.
Term 2 and the final year
Repair, then finish
Clear whatever stalled, and in the final year move the research proposal early. If postgraduate study is the plan, IELTS or TOEFL preparation belongs in this window, while the habit of studying is still running.

Agree on gadget rules

Observe for two weeks first
Note which subjects spark enthusiasm and which get avoided, then decide whether extra support is needed.
